The becoming of Terreyl Fields is a unique one. Fields’ artistry began when he found passion in modeling. As he continued to explore the inspiration brewing within, he began making beats with Garageband. Since then, Terreyl Fields has drawn influence from today’s hip hop and rap scene to create his self-produced, genre-bending EP, ‘First Hit.’ This EP is a fresh take on modern-day music that will take you on a journey through the Terreyl Fields dimension.
Robust bass lines and intergalactic synths paired with Fields’ unique vocals, entrance the listener into a fully immersive experience. This self-produced portrait of learning from one's mistakes and embracing one's confidence will leave you feeling awakened.
This celestial EP hits the ground running with the first track ‘Intro/Prophecy.’ A string of rhythmic, high-energy synths quickly had me hooked and ready to hear more. The next track, ‘Spacing,’ starts with a vivacious snare roll build-up that eventually launches into an optimistic outlook on life. ‘Spacing’ is seemingly about the people around who don’t believe in you and are just waiting for you to fail. Fields thoughtfully acknowledges that optimism can work in your favor if you allow it to. My favorite line from the EP is from this track when Fields sings, "When I lose I am still winning." There is a valuable lesson to be learned here, and that is you can learn from your mistakes and keep going. It’s not the end of the world if you have a setback. Take it in stride, do your best, and keep going.
I once had a band director tell us [the band] that there is a time and place to melt the listener’s face off in the best way. Throughout an arrangement or record, in this case, you want to have a diverse range of dynamics so you can take the listener on a journey. You don’t want to be cranked up to 10 the entirety of a song/album. Terreyl Fields has truly found the perfect balance in ‘First Hit.’ This EP is both introspective and exuberant, allowing the listener to ebb and flow along with the music as it takes them on what feels like a cruise through space.
